Hygiene is defined as a set of practices which are performed in order to prevent or to reduce the occurrence and dispersion of disease causing agents. Depending upon a number of parameters, hygiene can be categorized into a number of types such as hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene, food hygiene, laundry hygiene, medical hygiene at home, personal hygiene, excessive body hygiene, culinary hygiene and personal hygiene services. However, the overall hygiene market is broadly classified into three segments: baby diapers, feminine care products and adult incontinence products.

 

Diapers are classified into two types: disposable diapers and cloth diapers. Cloth diapers are further segmented into nine types namely; flat diaper, prefolds diaper, fitted diaper, contours diaper, shaped diaper, tie-up diaper, pocket diaper, all-in-one diaper and all-in two diaper. Adult diapers and adult absorbent briefs are the chief products of the adult incontinence product segment.

 

The key factors driving growth of the global diaper industry include ameliorating economic conditions such as rising GDP and GNI, rising urban population, increasing healthcare expenditure, growing aging and infant population, apart from others. Some of the noteworthy trends and developments of this industry include launch of fluff-less diaper, penetration of retail brands, increasing adoption of environmental friendly products, launch of diaper buzzers for baby diapers. However, the growth of the industry is hindered by social economic constrains, pricing dynamics and environmental challenges.
